In your browser simply type: http://example.co.za/webmail OR http://webmail.example.co.za Replace ‘example.co.za’ with your actual domain name. Insert your email address and its password so that you are able to login. There would be three webmail applications to choose from. You may select which one you wish to load up automatically the next time you login by click on the “Set as Default” option. After setting your default application you can now select it to login. This only needs to be done once after selecting your default application. Every time thereafter you will be logged in automatically.

How do I create a strong password?

It is extremely important to use a strong password for securing all your services. This could be your cPanel account, email account or any other part of your hosting package. Your password should be easy to remember but very difficult to guess. A strong password has the following characteristics: Is at least eight characters long. Does not contain your user name, real name, or company name. Does not contain a complete word. Does not get used on multiple accounts Contains uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers and symbols

Strong passwords are hard to remember!

One method to create a password that is easy to remember is to make an acronym from a unique phrase or sentence. For example: The “like” button on Facebook is amazing. Now take the first letter of each word in the sentence: tlbofia Throw in some punctuation: T”L”boFiA. Replace some of those letters with numbers for variety: T”L”b0F1A. This leaves you with a strong password that can be easily remembered: T”L”b0F1A.

Which Domain extension should I use?

The choice of domain extension is based on availability, location and preference. • Availability: The most common domains are .com, which means that the choice of available domains is now very limited. In many cases, the registrant of a .com domain will also have registered the equivalent .org and .net domains. If an alternative domain extension is available, you will need to decide if the possible confusion with the .com domain is a problem. In South Africa, businesses will usually choose between .com and .co.za domains. • Location: If your target market is international then you will probably be better suited to an international domain extension such as .com. If your target market is specific to a country or area, then a country domain extension is suitable e.g. .co.za, .de, .co.uk or .eu. • Preference: Should a number of options be available, then it is a matter of personal preference.

What domain names do you offer?

Ascentium Technologies facilitates the registration of the following domain extensions via third party registrars:

What is Domain propagation?

Domain propagation is the process whereby nameservers update across the Internet to reflect a change in a domain’s DNS record. Your website lives on a web server (in a data centre), and it is this web server which has it’s own IP address. In addition to web servers, there are thousands of DNS servers located around the world. When a domain name is typed into a browser, it is the DNS (Domain Name System) that translates this domain name into an IP address in order to locate the website. The sole responsibility of a DNS server is to take domain names and associate them to an IP addresses. When a website is moved to a new server (with a different IP address), or a new domain is registered, there is a change of IP address. Every DNS server in the world needs to update its record of what IP is associated with this domain. This is called propagation. In other words, propagation is the time it takes for the DNS (Domain Name System) to update globally following a change to DNS. Changes to DNS records do not propagate throughout the Internet immediately, as all server caches first need to expire and refresh, which typically takes 24 to 72 hours. During this time, if you are transferring your domain to another service provider, some nameservers will still refer to your site’s old hosting location while nameservers that have already been notified of the change will refer to the new location. As a result, visitors accessing your site may be directed to either the old or new location, depending upon which nameserver they connect to.

What is the Domain Transfer Policy?

The Transfer Policy previously only covered domain transfers between registrars but now also covers the process of changing ownership of the domain from one entity to another (Registrant to Registrant). This typically happens under the following scenarios: 1. When a domain is transferred to Ascentium Technologies Pty Ltd 2.When Registrant details are updated through Ascentium Technologies Pty Ltd

Which domains are affected?

The ICANN policy applies to all gTLD domains. These Global Top Level Domains are all international, non-country specific domains eg .com, .net, .org, .info and .biz. What is the effect? • Any changes to first name, last name, organization or email address fields for the owner of any gTLD domain name will now start a trade process. • The process involves obtaining explicit confirmation from current and new Registrants, via a series of confirmation and approval emails before a change can be completed. If either party declines the change, then the change of Registrant request is cancelled and the previous whois info remains the same.

Reasons for a Domain Transfer to fail

There are several reasons that a domain transfer request might be rejected by the current registrar. A whois lookup on your domain can help you identify the problem as it will display the current contact information and Lock status. Common reasons for domain transfer failure •Not accepted by the Registrant The current Registrant email address is available via a Whois lookup. The domain update request may not have been accepted by the Registrant if •They have not seen, or have ignored, the emailed update request. Remind them and resubmit the transfer request. •The Registrant email is no longer in use or is incorrect. You will need to contact the registrar to update the registrant email address.

60 day Transfer Lock period

Domain names are locked for 60 days after initial registration or previous transfer and can’t be transferred during this period. Contact info@ascentiumapps.co.za and request that they setup your domain as a Hosting Only package during this period. After the 60 day lock has expired, contact our Admin team again and request that they resubmit the registry transfer.
